By eating variety of healthy foods including fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds, soy products, and whole grains, vegetarians can get adequate nutrients from non–meat sources. Vegetarians and vegans need to pay attention to getting enough protein, iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and omega–3 fatty acids. A meatless diet can be healthy but Vitamin B12 is found naturally only in animal products as per The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
